About the Giants

The New York Giants were founded in 1925. The Giants had a few succesful seasons leading up to the 1958 season. 1958 was the Giants fifth consecutive winning season. They also won the NFL championship in 1956. Under coach Jim Lee Howell they finished the 1958 season with a record of 9-3. This record was good enough to clinch first place in the Eastern conference and secure their spot in the NFL championship game.

The 1958 Giants did not have any players quite as remarkable as the Colts' Johnny Unitas. Infact they didn't even have one predominant quarterback. Their season was  evenly quarterbacked by three differant quarterbacks; Charley Conerly, Tom Dublinski, and Don Heinrich.

The team's best talent of the 1958 season was Frank Gifford, who had 10 touchdowns in 10 games played.

Perhaps the most notable member of the 1958 Giants was not a player but instead was the offensive coordinator, Vince Lombardi. While he was best known for his work in Green Bay, he still made quite a posotive impact on the Giants in the four seasons he was with the team. Lombardi made such an impact on the game that the NFL eventually named the super bowl trophy after him.
